Living the Airstream Dream…Almost!

I used to be a purist.  I only tent camped, with the bare necessities.  Give me a tent, a sleeping bag, some food and water, and a campfire, and it was all good.

Then I got older.  The camping dream changed.  I wanted to find a simple trailer, that would not take away from my enjoyment of living outdoors, just make it more comfortable.  So fourteen years ago, I bought a 1970 Airstream Safari.  It was in great shape and I camped with the Airstream for the first 12 years with no updates, no repairs.

But as life would have it, I continued to get older, my reasons for camping changed, and I wanted a nicer Airstream.  For two years, I worked to update my 1970 Safari, having all new plumbing installed, new water heater and propane tanks, new brakes, and a hydraulic hitch lift added.  I took it even further by redecorating the interior, which ended up including new appliances and carpet.  Now I have the perfect Airstream, at least for a few more years.

I love my Airstream.  It is small enough to give me the freedom to go just about anywhere, it pulls very easily, and is quickly maneuvered into tight camp sites.  It is warm and inviting, offering me a haven from the rain and cold nights in autumn.  It fits my personality and lets me be who I am meant to be.

I can see what's coming in the future though.  I will need to win the lottery.  After I make all the charitable contributions I have in mind with my lottery winnings, I hope to have enough left over to contact Airstream and order a custom-made silver trailer that will fit my ever growing needs.  This sight is dedicated to my vision.

Each post will be one more requirement I will have for my Dream Airstream.  I have so many ideas!  The Dream Airstream will not only be a more permanent home, but it will be my traveling office as well.  Someday, it might even become real, but for now my evolving design keeps my mind busy and gives me something to reach for.

Wood Burning Stove in Airstream
The very first thing that comes to mind when designing the Dream Airstream is a wood-burning stove.  I had never heard of anyone using a wood-burner in a camper, and even thought it was probably impossible, until I came across this photo on www.CampingRoadTrip.com

This is exactly what I want in the Dream Airstream!  Now that I know it is possible, I have added it to the list.

As this blog develops, I hope to get feedback from readers.  Your suggestions, questions, and comments will help make the Dream Airstream perfect!

Who knows?  Maybe twenty years from now, you will pull into a campground and see an amazing Airstream parked next to your site.  If you see a sign over the door that says "Kiki's Place" you'll know it's me.  Stop in and say hello, enjoy the wood burning stove, and share a cup of coffee with me!
